Looking To Make A Port Wine Stain Birthmark Less Noticeable? Three Treatments You Can Try At Home

Posted on

A port wine stain is a type of vascular birthmark. In most cases, the birth mark lightens as the child grows. But, depending on where it is located, it still may be visible. If you have a port wine stain that you are self-conscious about, you may be looking for ways to make it less noticeable. Here are three home treatments you can try to lessen the appearance of your port wine stain birthmark.

Use Lemon Juice

If you are looking to lighten the appearance of your port wine stain birthmark, treating the area with lemon juice may help. Lemon juice has long been shown to have a natural bleaching effect on the skin. When used on skin, it can help to lighten many different imperfections, including birthmarks, sun spots and freckles. The best way to use lemon juice is to slice a lemon in half, squeeze the juice into a cup or bowl and then rub the juice into the birthmark with a soft cloth. Allow the juice to sit on the skin for about 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it away. Reapply the juice up to three times a day for the best results.

Apply Apricot Slices

Apricots contain an enzyme that has been shown to lighten skin marks, including birthmarks. While there are many facial cleansers on the market that contain apricot, using fresh fruit yields the best results. The best way to apply apricot to the port wine stain birthmark is to slice up the apricot and then lay the fresh slices over the birthmark. Leave the apricot on the skin until it begins to dry out, or about 15 minutes. Throw the apricot slice away and rinse the skin.

Use Vitamin E Oil

The last way that you can reduce the appearance of port wine stain birthmarks at home is to use vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil has been shown to reduce scars, birthmarks and other skin imperfections. Pour a couple of drops of vitamin E oil onto your fingers and then massage it into the birthmark. Allow it to soak into the skin. If you have oily skin, you may want to rinse the oil away after 15 to 30 minutes to prevent break outs. If you do not have oily skin, you do not have to rinse the oil away. Repeat this process in the morning and before bed for the best results.

There are many home remedies you can use to attempt to make your port wine stain birthmark less noticeable. However, they may not always work. If you are serious about lightening or removing the birthmark, consult with a doctor. Laser therapy may be the most effective way to remove the birthmark.
